The Montjuïc Project, initiated and managed by the Institut d'Estudis Jueus de Barcelona aims to compile consolidate past and present efforts and research by local activists and the city's Jewish communities.

We collaborate with leading European professional organizations specializing in the commemoration of Jewish heritage and memory sites, such as the Urban Memory Foundation and the Zapomniane Foundation.

Our main goals with this Memory and Heritage Project are:

  • Examine and Develop Plans: Create plans for the intervention, care, and commemoration of the cemetery, ensuring respect for the rules of Jewish tradition.

  • Lead a Public-Political Campaign: Promote the commemoration of the ancient Jewish cemetery by the local government through a public and political campaign.

  • Encourage Historical Research: Facilitate and promote historical research of the cemetery's artifacts, and develop means to present findings to the public.

  • Consider Artifact Returning to the Site: Evaluate the possibility of returning artifacts to their original site to honor and preserve the cemetery's historical integrity.
